Shah Rukh Khan as Raj & Kaali, Kajol as Meera, Varun Dhawan as Veer, Kriti Sanon as Ishita, Varun Sharma as Sidhu, Vinod Khanna as Randheer Bakshi, Kabir Bedi as Dev Malik, Boman Irani as King, Johnny Lever as Mani, Sanjay Mishra as Oscar, Mukesh Tiwari as Shakti and Pankaj TripathI as Anwar. The film has principal cast like SRK and Kajol with Varun Dhavan and Kriti Sanon. For the numerous fans of SRK and Kajol it’s a memorable time to watch them again on screen after 2010 (My Name is Khan). And the couple stole the show with their niche romance and effervescent acts. SRK is as usual carrying a charismatic look in young role and a submissive middle-aged guy in beard. Kajol is gorgeous in her portrayal of the character at all the high points of the films. Varun Dhavan has performed incredibly and is successful in providing light moments to the audience. Kirti Sanon is fresh and other than her looks she doesn’t have much to do. The cast of the supporting actors is huge and all of them add up to the sparkle of the film by their performances. Johny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Mukesh Tiwari, Varun Sharma and Pankaj Tripathi are excellent in their comic timings. Boman Irani is considerably well whereas the veteran actors viz. Vinod Khanna and Kabir Bedi are just good for their roles with nothing much to do.
CINEMATOGRAPHY: The cinematography of the film is spectacular and it gives a king-size treat to the eyes of the audience.
Suniel Rodrigues – A Rohit Shetty film has cars and action which a treat to the eyes of the audience. The film ‘DILWALE has vibrant action scenes typically characterizing Rohit Shetty. Although in this film Rohit has bent towards the drama, conflict, and heartbreak much more than other films. The nail-biting car rolling scenes are quite brilliant but so dangerous to shoot could be seen from video of the making released by Rohit Shetty. The actions are gripping enough for the viewers.
‘DILWALE’ – typically a Rohit Shetty film has the right amount of every element that general audience apprehends. The story seems to be written after seeing lots of family dramas and foreign films too.
The plot of the story seems to be borrowed from Amitabh’s film HUM and Kasme Vaade. The romantic scenes are copied from films like Love Actually, PS I Love You and How I met your Mother. Anyway, the film is low on content, a bit slow and stagnant some of the times. Rohit Shetty narrates the story very smartly with plots and sub-plots completely capturing viewers’ attention, while the dialogues work as peppering and garnishing. SRK and Kajol’s sizzling chemistry is the only USP of the story.
In a nutshell, the movie is an entertainment treats for the viewers delivering action, drama, romance wrapped in comedy. So it’s a must see movie for the weekend…
STORY: Sajid and Farhad
The story starts with two brothers Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) and Veer (Varun Dhavan) who are car modifier. Raj loves his brother Veer unconditionally whereas Veer is a happy-go-lucky and romantic chap who respects his elder brother. Veer clashes with King (Boman Irani) while dating Ishita( Kriti Sanon) to stop them from pedaling drugs across the counter in a restaurant. And after that the villainous group beat him up. Raj although supposed to be a non- violent and simple man beats them up in their godown and at that time he says that- King ko bolna Kali aaya Tha. That’s the time viewers realize that Raj has a past. And the flashback starts. Fifteen years ago in Bulgaria, a young Kaali is seen to rob gold from his father Randhir’s (Vinod Khanna) rival Malik (Kabir Bedi). Then it is shown that a pretty girl Meera, is knocked down by Kaali while chasing his rivals, and injures her leg. He falls for Meera, who acts out as his lover till the time of an assignment is robbed out of his hand and he discovers that Meera is none other than Malik’s daughter. After a few twist their meeting ends up in bloody battle in which both of them lose their fathers. And from there culminates enmity and misunderstanding between the two. Further in the story, Kaali’s younger brother Veer and Meera’s younger sister Ishita fall for each other as both of them had moved to Goa coincidentally. Now the story revolves around the siblings trying to convince their elders to allow them to marry and rekindle their love as well.
The whole movie has been shot in Bulgaria in flashback and Goa in present times. Whereas, the songs have been beautifully shot in different exotic places like Abu Dhabi, Cape Town, Mauritius and obviously India.
MUSIC: PRITAM CHAKRABORTY
The music of the film goes very well with the genre. Song ‘Gerua’ has been is the exotically shot and wonderfully sung. ‘Manma emotion jaage re’ is another song which has pierced the young minds flooding the social media in different versions. The other two songs has also been composed very soulfully and placed very schematically. The background music is incredible and in synchronization with the situations.
Antara Mitra, Arijit Singh, Amit Mishra, Anushka Manchanda, Benny Dayal, Kanika Kapoor, Jonita Gandhi.
Sajid and Farhad have written dialogues which are comic liners mostly and typically of their style. They can’t be said to be of grade A.
